I am so fat and/or I feel so ugly
and/or My friends/family make fun of me because I'm fat and/or My boyfriend
broke up with me because I'm fat - what should I do?
Sadly, questions like these make up approximately 90% of the messages sent to us.
There is nothing wrong with being fat and being fat does NOT make you ugly. As for your
friends (boyfriends included), if they had any self-confidence they wouldn't feel the need
to judge you based on your appearance. Finally, if you need more support from your
family, sit down with them and tell them calmly what you're thinking and feeling. You
can also write to Dear Fatty if you'd like a more personal
response.
How can I lose weight?
We prefer not to focus on weight loss but, rather, healthy eating and exercise as a means
of taking better care of yourself. If you are adamant about losing weight, we suggest
you take a look into a reputable weight-loss organization such as Weight Watchers or
eDiets.com.
What's up with "Healthy Eating" and "Get Active"? I thought you said there's
nothing wrong with being fat and were against dieting and weight loss?
Although this site started out as a humorous one, we have never been advocates for
getting fat on purpose, laziness, being a couch potato or not taking care of yourself.
It is very important for everyone - regardless of their size - to take steps to protect
against things like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and
high cholesterol through healthy eating and movement.
How can I be healthy if I'm fat?
Contrary to popular belief, being healthy does not necessarily mean you're thin. There are
things you can do to take care of your body including changing some of your eating habits,
drinking more water and moving your body. For more ideas, please see the Healthy Eating
and Get Active sections under Editorials & Columns.
I see Fatty frequently referring to BMI - what is that?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index and it's an assessment of your weight based on your
height. Because it does NOT take into consideration muscle mass or any other
physical factors, its use is contraversial. We prefer to use it only when those with
low BMIs write and tell us they think they're fat and are trying to lose weight as a
result.
What happened to the Photos and Fun Stuff sections of the site?
The photos were removed due to server space and the fact they didn't really go with
the rest of the site. We may bring them back in the future but for now they're
gone. The links that were on the Fun Stuff page can now be found under either
Features or Links.
How did Fat Girls Rule begin?
The answer to this can be found on our About Us page.
Who gets the money for the merchandise - you or Cafe Press?
Both. We looked into numerous options before deciding to go with Cafe Press and
one of the reasons we chose them is the fact we don't have to pre-order anything
in bulk. All orders are made as they receive them. Cafe Press keeps a small
percentage of the profit and then puts our share in our account for us to withdrawal
whenever we want. The proceeds go toward the costs of the website (domain name,
web space, etc.)
I love Fat Girls - how about a little one-on-one action?
Sure - except I haven't played basketball in awhile.
What happened to the LiveJournal community?
The community hadn't been active in a year so we opted to delete it. If we can find someone
to moderate it for us we may reverse that action but for now it's closed.
