Fat Girl Hall Of Fame

Despite the fact the world is full of Fat Girls, very few of us ever make it into the spotlight. Here is a list of some noteworthy Fat Girls we believe are worth mentioning for their tenacity, strength and confidence:
  • Joy Nash (online celebrity/comedianne) Check out Joy's MySpace page if for no more reason than to see her Fat Girl humor in action! Joy Nash rocks our toe socks!
  • Kathy Bates (actress) Won an Academy Award for her role in "Misery". She's always been a BBW and a phenomenal actress and showed that Fat Girls have nothing to be ashamed when she appeared nude in the movie "Being Schmidt".
  • Camryn Manheim (actress) Won an Emmy for her role on "The Practice" and wrote a successful autobiography titled "Wake Up, I'm Fat!" Her confidence and beauty shined when she, too, appeared nude in the movie "The Road To Wellville".
  • Queen Latifah (actress, singer) Grammy winner and Academy Award nominee, multi-talented Queen Latifah is a shining example of confidence in motion. She manages to capture your attention whether she's acting, singing, rapping or making you laugh. Yes, we're aware she recently starred in commercials for Jenny Craig but she lost the weight to get healthier and avoid health problems, NOT because she wanted to fit into society's norms of what's "beautiful".
  • Kirstie Alley (actress) Put on a lot of weight but, instead of hiding in shame, she put it out there for all to see in both her commercials for "Jenny Craig" and her TV series "Fat Actress".
  • Rosie O'Donnell (actress, comedianne, former talk-show host) Has never apologized for her size and even joked about it in a standup routine she did after filming wrapped on "Exit To Eden". (Apparently some scenes had to be re-shot and she'd already grown out of her skin-tight leather costume).
  • Margaret Cho (actress, comedianne) Hollywood gave her a hard time because she gained weight. She responded with a best-selling autobiography and successful comedy tour.
  • Aretha Franklin (singer) Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, multi-Grammy winner and "Queen of Soul", she never let her weight gain get in the way of her highly successful career.
  • Anne Wilson (singer, songwriter) Lead singer of the band "Heart" (which also featured her sister Nancy on guitar). Doesn't understand why people are so focused on her weight since it's her voice that launched her career.
  • Marilyn Monroe (singer, actress, Hollywood legend) Although she was more curvy than fat, she wore a size 12/14 which, by today's standards, would have killed her career. (Thanks to Mommacat for pointing this out!)
  • Nell Carter (actress, singer) Probably best known for her work on the TV series "Gimme A Break!" and her stage work in "Ain't Misbehavin'"
  • Rusty Schwimmer (actress) Character actress whose credits include the movies "Runaway Jury", "The Perfect Storm", "Amistad" and "If These Walls Could Talk".
  • Conchata Ferrell (actress) Probably best known for her role as the nosey secretary in "Erin Brockovich". Other acting credits include "Mr. Deeds", "K-PAX" and "Mystic Pizza".
  • Roseanne (actress, comedianne) Although contraversial, she broke new ground in the 80's with her self-titled sitcom that featured a fat, middle-class couple as its stars.
  • Mabel King (actress) Played "Mama" on the 70's TV series "What's Happening!".
  • Shirley Hemphill (actress, comedianne) Also starred in the TV series "What's Happening!" as "Shirley", the girl who ran the diner.
  • Esther Rolle (actress) Probably best known for her role as the mother "Florida" on the 70's TV series "Good Times".
  • Mama Cass (singer) Probably best known for being a member of the 60's rock group "The Mamas And The Papas".
