And where exactly IS Jake anyway? I'm glad you asked. He's at Jess's
construction site laying face down in gravel alongside his older brother -
good thing he had Jess there to break his fall. As a bunch of hardhats
approach them, Jake slowly lifts his head and it appears he has won this
round of American Gladiators. As he looks at his bloody hand he quickly
deduces that the blood is leaking from Jess's head and states flatly,
"he's dead" and it's a good thing Jess didn't get blood on his tuxedo - they
charge extra to get those kinds of stains out y'know. The foreman, who is
obviously also either a doctor or a psychic, confirms this diagnosis
without so much as laying one finger on Jess... amazing.
At the hospital, Billy is at the head of Alison's gurney with Brooke
bouncing right behind him. Alison is wearing a gauze blindfold so either
she hurt her eyes or she was in the middle of playing a good game of "Pin
The Tail On The Donkey" when the bomb in her apartment went off. I vote
the latter. As doctors rush her off and tell Billy to wait, Brooke cries
to the nurses about how his arms need medical attention. Unfortunately
for Billy's elbows, there are a few more serious injuries among the bunch,
most noteably an unconscious Kimberly (who has Dr. Peter barking out
orders to the staff) followed by Mackenzie Hart - Richard's wife. So, out
of these 3, one will be the second death we were "promised"... who do you
think is going to bite it? I'll wait while you decide.
Matt's sporting a sassy new look with his blue county jail jumpsuit as he
makes his "one phone call" to his parents. His father answers and we hear
Matt say, "Hi Dad, it's me..... Matt" and it isn't until Matt says his own
name that his father's face lights up with recognition as if he gets
strange calls from jail all the time. Matt informs his father that he's
in jail and his heartbroken idiot father tells him he'll contact his
lawyer immediately.
Back at the hospital, Jane and Richard are standing in the hospital when a
doctor approaches Richard to inform him his wife died. Turns out she had
a massive heart attack at the scene so technically no one blew up along
with the building. Pity - I had such high hopes. As Richard sheds zero
tears, Jane consoles him.
Jake is also in the hospital with a head wound and his leg in a brace and
as if he doesn't have enough problems now he's got Billy visiting him
telling him all about the bomb. Billy then inquires what happened between
Jake and Jess and is told, "we fought and we fell and he died" and then
asks Billy to keep that between them. Right at that precise moment, 2
detectives enter the room to ask Jake some questions so Billy leaves,
presumably to find some other patients to pester in an attempt to continue
to avoid his screeching wife.
Billy's attempts obviously fail as we next see him back in the waiting
room where a nurse tells Billy and Brooke that Alison sustained some
injuries to her face although to what degree they don't yet know. When he
asks if he can see her, the nurse tells him that will have to wait so
Brooke jumps in and tells him to take care of himself and says they can
stay with her "Daddy". When Billy suggests they invite the rest of the
gang, she balks at which point Peter jumps in and offers to take the
homeless home with him, but actually he's just referring to Amanda. He
asks her if she'd like to come stay with him and tells her he'll make her
breakfast but she turns him down. Sydney echoes her shock out loud just
as Michael wheels Jo in. He announces he's taking her back to the beach
house with him and invites Syd and Amanda to join him. As they walk down
the hall, Amanda tells Michael he better keep his hands to himself to
which he replies, "Oh believe me - that's the last thing on my mind...
especially with any of you".
The following morning, Brooke, Billy and "Daddy" are outside enjoying
breakfast when Hayley starts giving Billy grief about their postponed
honeymoon. Billy explains that he wants to wait until his friends (i.e.
Alison) are better. Brooke begs so he concedes and I get the very strong
feeling we're going to be seeing alot of this kind of manipulation in
episodes to come.
Alison's bandages are coming off and the doctor explains that they won't
know the extent of the damage to her eyes for awhile. Not only that, but
it looks like she's got staplegun marks around her eyes - what kind of a
hospital is this anyway?! The bandages are off and guess what - Alison
can't see. Her blindness is probably temporary but, again, they don't
know for sure. The doctor leaves and Alison cries.
Elsewhere in the hospital, a doctor is escorting Peter to Kimberly's room
in the psych ward asking him to talk with her since he's a colleague of
hers and he was the one who pulled her from the pool, as if the latter
makes any sense at all. Hell, he's not really even her colleague for that
matter. Anyway, Peter agrees and gets clearance with the guard outside
her door who, ironically, goes halfway down a page of names before he sees
Peter's name - as if a psycho bomber would be having that many visitors.
Peter finds Kimberly on her knees on her bed and she instantly starts
rambling about how she didn't do it and that it was Michael and they
should go to Hobbes and have Michael thrown out! Peter calmly tells her
he's "on her side" which seems to reassure her but when he informs her he
saw her push THE BUTTON, she goes crazy apeshit bonkers and wildly attacks
Peter screaming and shrieking, "Liar! Liar!" Peter leaves to go change
his underwear.
Richard and Jane are having breakfast at his place when the new, improved
Jane suggests a way of "keeping Mackenzie alive artistically". She tells
Richard to bury her under her maiden name so the press won't catch wind of
her death and then release the spring line as planned. Richard is
shocked and angered and makes no secret of this fact, but Jane tells him
"it's how Mackenzie would have wanted it" as if her 2 day relationship
with the woman was more intense than all the years Richard spent married
to her. Jane concludes, "I'm just trying to do what's right" to which
Richard hisses, "Yeah but for who Jane?"
Matt's mother has come to visit him in jail and
has brought their lawyer Alycia along with her. Matt immediately asks
what took them so long and why his father isn't there and my guess is that
he again forgot who Matt is. Mother Dearest starts spewing out excuses about Matt's "lifestyle" so he points
out the obvious fact that his being gay has nothing to do with this.
Alycia grabs the phone and tells Matt to calm down but it doesn't work.
Matt's temperature rises (time to get Degree!) as he starts screaming "I
was framed!" His mother just looks exasperated so he shouts, "Get out of
my sight - get out of my life - GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" as the guards carry him
back to his cell.
Jane goes to visit Alison in the hospital and the 2 share some "girl talk"
about the meaning of life now that they've survived "The Bombing of 4616"
(coming soon to a movie theatre near you). Jane invites Alison to come
stay with her and they both agree not to let anything ever get in the way
of their friendship again (which sounds like the perfect invitation for
disaster). Billy knocks and asks to come in, so Alison asks Jane not to
disclose the details about her blindness (and possible recovery) to anyone. Jane agrees and leaves as Billy enters the room. Alison
immediately shifts into "cold-shoulder mode" as she thanks Billy for
saving her life. She continues that she hopes he and Brooke are happy but
when he tells her his honeymoon can wait, she gets angry, citing the fact
that he married somebody else. Billy tries to tell her he still cares but
she tells him to leave her and her staplegun eyes alone.
Jake has recovered enough to limp into the apartment courtyard with the
assistance of a cane and a trendy baseball cap. He finds Amanda there
with an insurance rep and asks if he can get into his apartment. Amanda
explains that his half of the building is "structurally sound" so he's
welcome to come home. Just as he's about to open the door, Jo appears out
of nowhere and anxiously asks what happened to Jess. Jake flatly replies,
"Simple - he's dead" and then explains the cops are calling it
self-defense. Jo is full of emotion and wants to share it with Jake but
he wants no part of it as he tells her to go away (which, ironically, is
exactly what his doormat says).
Alycia has come to see Matt who changed his mind about using her services
once he discovered how good an attorney she actually is. He explains once
again that he's innocent and therefore doesn't want a plea bargain.
Alycia suggests they wait until the bail hearing and take it from there
and then follows with "I'm on your side" which seems to be "Line O' The
Week" here.
Now it's Amanda's turn to visit Alison, who is now sporting sunglasses.
Amanda has the charm factor turned up full tilt but Alison isn't buying
into it. She tells Amanda, "You don't care what I think - you're too busy
washing me down with your guilt" and then invites Amanda to leave by
telling her "if you feel better about yourself you can go".
Michael approaches Kimberly's doctor in the hospital hallway and starts a
big sob story about how he doesn't have enough money to cover her medical
expenses. He then suggests they "ship her off" to the state mental health
facility when Peter, overhearing this conversation, steps in. He shoos
the nameless doctor off and tells Michael he will assume responsibility
for Kimberly's medical bills and finishes by warning Michael to stay away
from her.
Hey kids, it's time for the world's quickest bail hearing ever. On the
left, in the red trousers, we have the prosecution who wants Matt to be
denied bail. And on the right, in the blue jumpsuit and shackles, we have
the defense who argues that Matt is not a flight risk. And the winner
is..... Matt! But, given the seriousness of the crime, the bail is set
at 1 million, 2 thousand dollars. Alycia calmly informs the judge that
they can make bail. When Matt inquires how she explains his parents put
up their house. Turns out they love their poor, gay, homicidal son after
all.
Richard and Jane are at the cemetary vault where Mackenzie has been buried
under her maiden name as planned. Richard is in apparent grief so Jane
suggests they "get to work!" Richard is again mortified by Jane's
behavior but this time her attempts to console him won't work. He tells
her to beat it so he can spend some quiet time staring at the cemetary wall.
Matt goes to his parents house to thank them for all their help which is
interesting as I was under the impression his family lived out of state.
His parents ask how he's doing and he replies, "OK - considering..."
Yeah - considering the fact that you were framed for murder and your
apartment no longer exists and on top of all that you'll never be allowed
to kiss on a man on this show! They all hug and kiss and despite all
this mushy nonsense, Matt's parents never let him past the front door.
Billy and Brooke return home from work when Hayley storms in and demands
Billy take Brooke on their honeymoon immediately. Billy pauses for a
moment and then replies, "You can wait until you're strapped in a
wheelchair and you're spitting up your peas but I will never, NEVER take
orders from you! And you can continue your sick relationship with your
daughter all you want and you can do it without me!" He concludes by
telling Hayley, "have one of your slaves bring my stuff to my apartment"
and then walks out. Go, big boy, go! Brooke tries to chase after him but
Hayley holds her back shouting, "let him go!"
Jake and a priest are at Jess's gravesite getting ready to drop him in the
ground and the priest seems more interested in the event than does Jake.
He nonchalantly reaches into his pocket to pay the priest and then turns
away. As he walks back to his car, he sees Jo standing there and she
immediately starts in again with her apologies and guilt. Jake cuts her
off and tells her he doesn't care what happens to her so she exasperatedly
gives him his mother's brooch and walks off in a huff.
Billy is back in his apartment when Brooke shows up with his suitcase.
She tells him she echoed Billy's "shove it" sentiments and asks if he'll
give her another chance. He agrees and they kiss and make up while I
pause to HURL!
Peter stops by again to see Kimberly who is now lying curled up in a fetal
position on her bed. She tells Peter she's trying hard to remember what
happened but she doesn't remember anything past the day before the blast.
She gets a very lost, scared look on her face and starts rocking as she
repeats, "I wouldn't hurt anyone... I wouldn't... I wouldn't..." and we
fade to black.

"Postmortem Madness"
As expected, this season starts off with a blast... literally. All our
favorite 4616 residents are running around the courtyard yet, ironically,
none of them seem to be getting anywhere. Kimberly runs in and informs
everyone, "Wait - it's not what it looks like!" so I'm guessing this isn't
the swim party/sleepover it appears to be. As she pulls a detonator out
of thin air, she laughs, "it's worse" and pushes the big shiny red button
that promptly blows up the only apartment complex in LA. After several
minutes of cheesy pieced together slow-mo blast scenes, Billy jumps over
his second story railing, drops to the courtyard below and runs into
Alison's apartment despite the shrieking protests of his new wife. Once
inside, he finds Alison crumpled up in a corner, scoops her up and rushes
her outside to safety! Hooray for Soccer Boy! Peter, meanwhile, notices
Kimberly floating face down in the pool and runs down the stairs to save
her (he doesn't have bionic Billy legs so he couldn't just jump over the
railing). As he passes Amanda on the way down, you can hear Michael tell
her, "We gotta talk" as if NOW is the best time to be doing that. Peter
fishes Kimberly out of the pool and starts resucitating her but is quickly
replaced by the miracle 2-minute LA firefighters who have come to save
everyone. Peter runs back upstairs to assist Jo - who is still recovering
from her impromptu boxing match with Jess - out to safety and instead of
thanking him all she can do is cry, "Jake! Jake!"
