At D&D Amanda storms into Brooke's new office hot under the collar because she signed off on some ad campaign without Amanda's prior approval. Brooke bats her eyes and plays innocent but before this charade can go any further the phone rings and it's Jack Parezi informing Brooke he's in town and he wants to see her. Brooke keeps a fake smile pasted on her face as she jots down the words "NEW CLIENT" and shows it to Amanda. Jack wants to come up to Brooke's office to see her but she suggests they meet for coffee in a local cafe instead. Hanging up the phone, Brooke informs Amanda she has to go meet her "new client" and skips out the door.
Hey look - it's Alycia Silverstone! Oh no, wait - that's just some girl walking her dog and spending an incredibly long amount of time in the opening montage. She must be another Spelling...
Back to the show. Brooke meets Jack at a place that looks more like the Polynesian Restaurant at Disney World than an LA cafe and asks how he found her. He explains she "dropped" one of her business cards at his place and was intrigued because it was a card for an ad agency when here she told him she worked in commercial real estate. He continues that he knows she was only in Miami for 3 hours and offers to give her the "nickel tour" (what's that - a tour of all the drug sights?) of Miami if she'll show him the sights in LA. Brooke tries to get out of his offer by informing him she's married but he just smiles and tells her, "I won't tell your husband if you don't".
It's the official unveiling of Hart & Mancini where no more than a handful of people - most of them employees - have gathered outside long enough for Richard to pull the sheet off the new logo and watch Jane carry around an unopened bottle of champagne but never share it with anyone. Jane tries to give Richard a congratulatory hug but he walks away from her and heads for his office. Jane chases after him and asks him what's wrong so he tells her they have "different agendas" meaning that he wants a relationship commitment out of her but she wants more time. She explains she's already feeling pressure on the business side and is afraid if she tries 2 new things at once she'll fail at both. Richard assures her, "I don't underestimate the pressure you're under" and if this is true then why does he keep pushing her to marry him, especially given the short amount of time they've been together. I mean hell - he doesn't even know if she can cook yet! The conversation eventually comes around to the engagement ring Jane still has and she asks Richard again for more time. Richard agrees but tells her, "don't wait too long - I might find someone else to give it to."
At the hospital a subpoena server "hits the jackpot" when he finds Drs. Hobbs, Burns and Mancini all standing around loitering in the same part of the hospital instead of doing anything useful like saving lives. Opening his subpoena, Dr. Hobbs angrily asks, "Matt Fielding is suing me for sexual discrimination?!" Michael smugly reminds the Chief Of Staff that he heard him making bigoted statements so Hobbs retaliates by threatening to cut Michael's caseload before storming off. Peter shares Hobbs' viewpoint and advises Michael not to testify against Hobbs although it's obvious there's no stopping Dr. Mancini and his never-ending quest for that Chief Of Staff position.
Back at Hart & Mancini, Richard has called Jo into his office not only to tell her she's doing a great job, but to also ask for a favor. "I think Jane needs a friend right now", he explains. "One who will point out she has a man in her life who wants nothing more than for her to be happy." Jo agrees to "see what she can do" then adds "Jane's very lucky" before smiling and walking out.
Suddenly it's nighttime and Jo enters the courtyard at 4616 to find her big bohunky boyfriend Jake swimming in the pool. She stops to talk with him a minute about her meeting with Richard before deciding to join Jake in the pool. As she starts up the stairs to her apartment to get changed and get a couple beers, Shelley conveniently emerges from Jake's apartment wearing a bikini and carrying - you guessed it - 2 beers. Being as dumb as a bag of hammers, Jake invites Shelley to jump on in since Jo will be coming down in a minute as well but Jo will have none of this competition. She comes back down to the pool and informs Jake that she has some work to do and can't join him after all before turning away and heading back to her apartment. The Dysfunctional Relationship Circus continues as Jake calls out to her and she ignores him, prompting him to jump out of the pool and chase after her. Inside Jo's apartment, Jake again shows his cluelessness by asking why she's jealous so Jo points out all the obvious tactics Shelley is using to get into Jake's life. When she finishes with "I bet she never even knew Jess" Jake gets defensive and tells her she's "out of line" and now I'm wondering when Jake developed this sudden kinship with his brother. Jo informs him, "you've made your choice" so Jake snaps, "Fine!" and storms out.
A couple doors down Brooke and Billy are in their charred abode trying to finish a presentation but Brooke is preoccupied with the fact that "Daddy" hasn't called her in awhile which must mean he's "up to something". Billy could care less and makes a smartass remark to this effect as the telephone rings. Brooke answers it and lo and behold - it's Jack! When she asks him how he got her number he suggests she underestimated him and it's obvious Brooke is starting to take Amanda's threats about Jack a little more seriously now. She turns to Billy who is now hovering over her and lies that it's some CD company she owes money to and suggests he go back to the presentation they're working on. On the other end, Jack isn't smiling this time around nor is he friendly as he threatens to go to Billy unless she agrees to meet him the following morning. She agrees by telling him, "the check is in the mail" and hanging up and suddenly Billy is hovering over her again saying, "they say that's one of the three greatest lies". Really? And what might the other two be? "Aaron Spelling isn't partial to his relatives" and "Andrew Shue is a good actor"?
The following morning Jo is at Jane's complaining about Jake and Shelly’s relationship. Jane suggests this may be Jake's way of dealing with his guilt over Jess's death. Jo seems to buy this possibility and then steers the conversation toward the topic of Richard. As instructed the day before she points out what a great guy he is, how he's not a "commitmentphobe" and how he adores Jane. Jane's curious about why Jo even cares and then explains =again= how she needs to keep her attention focused on her work. The 2 head out for work but only after Jane agrees to "keep an open mind" where Richard is concerned.
Outside, Shelley is squatting in front of Jake's apartment - maybe she lost a contact - when Jo and Jane walk by. She tells Jo, "I sleep on the sofa" with such insincerity even *I* don't believe her. Jo quips sarcastically, "I don't care" and heads out the gate.
Brooke meets up with Jack at a local museum and asks him to stay out of her life as she's in love with her husband. She tries to walk away but Jack grabs her arm and tells her he knows Amanda is alive and demands to know where she is. Brooke tells him at first that she doesn't know but when he doesn't buy her BS she tries a different lie. She tells him she knew Amanda 4 years ago and loaned her money after which Amanda disappeared and that's why Brooke was so surprised to see Amanda's portrait hanging on Jack's wall. Touching Brooke's face, Jack sarcastically states, "I thought it was an attraction to me" which is Billy's cue to emerge from nowhere and witness this gesture although neither Brooke nor Jack see him.
Later at D&D, Billy corners Brooke and demands they talk about what he saw earlier at the museum. Brooke tries to put it off until later but when Billy demands they talk about it NOW she spills the beans about who Jack is, what he wants, and the fact that he's scaring her and she doesn't know what to do. Billy advises she tell Amanda immediately which Brooke agrees to do although somehow I just don't see that happening any time soon.
Hayley pays a visit to Alison at home under the false pretense he's come to deliver a work-related package from Hong Kong that was misdirected to him. She notes that he could have had it messangered so he confesses his ulterior motive. "We have something in common", he tells her. "We both want to see Billy and Brooke split up". Given her history with Mr. Armstrong, Alison doesn't trust him and lets him know it so he invites her to dinner on his yacht the following evening. Taking his address she tells him she'll think about it.
Sydney is at work on the phone telling Michael about the latest issue of WEAR magazine featuring a picture of Jane and Richard on the cover. For whatever reason she thinks she and Michael should be getting a cut of Jane's profits and why Sydney is even speaking to him is beyond me. Peter enters the office and tells Sydney to go home before heading into his office to make a phone call. Sydney, snoop that she is, stays planted right at her desk and picks up her extension to eavesdrop on Peter's conversation despite the fact the blinds in his office are WIDE OPEN so he can see her EVERY MOVE but somehow this manages to slip past both the director AND Peter. He calls Mrs. Shaw and informs her Kimberly has had a breakdown and is in a mental hospital because she "hurt some people". He continues on about the voice/image that torments Kimberly and as soon as he says the name "Henry" Mrs. Shaw's face goes white as she tells Peter she doesn't know who that is, she can't help and abruptly hangs up the phone.
It appears Mrs. Shaw has a change of heart because the next day she's at the mental hospital with a court order to take Kimberly back to Ohio. Kimberly begs to stay in LA where Peter can look after her but Mrs. Shaw insists Kimberly go back to Cleveland. Peter is none to happy about this either and angrily hisses, "Before you go, why don't you tell Kimberly who Henry is" so now, in addition to his surgical skills and his newfound psychiatric talents, Peter is also a psychic. Mrs. Shaw denies knowing who Henry is but Peter keeps at it urging her, "Help her! Tell her!" Mrs. Shaw finally cracks and tells the story of Henry, the family gardener, who came into the house on the day before Kimberly's 8th birthday. Mrs. Shaw was in the kitchen baking a cake when the gardener started raping her. Hearing her mother's screams, Kimberly came into the kitchen and saw this ugly creature hurting her mother so she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Henry, killing him. To make matters worse, the family "had connections" so no charges were ever pressed AND they had the audacity to tell Kimberly it never really happened and that it was just a really bad dream. From then on there was always distance between Kimberly and her mom because Mrs. Shaw was afraid if she got too close to her daughter she would tell her the truth about the whole incident. Kimberly cries, "I thought you never loved me!" and as her mother breaks down in tears the two women embrace as Peter watches on cynically.
Matt is in Dr. Hobbs' office where he has just written out a check for $25,000 in exchange for Matt's agreement to drop all charges. Naturally Matt declines this offer asking, "Is this a settlement or a bribe?" He continues his speech telling Hobbs how he can't fire people because they're gay which only angers the bigoted Chief Of Staff. Hobbs threatens to hurt Matt's career but his threats fall on deaf ears as Matt tells him he'll have Hobbs "blackballed from every hospital in the country" before walking out.
Alison shows up at Hayley's yacht where Hayley is waiting with some "alcohol-free sparkling cider". However, Alison wants no part of his plan to break up Brooke and Billy and the only reason she showed up was to tell him this (she couldn't just use the phone?) She tells him she wants to get on with her life so they go inside to "toast to the future". He hands her a glass but instead of drinking it she abruptly puts it down and says she has to leave. While walking away down the pier, she trips over a rope and falls in the water so Hayley fishes her out and wraps a blanket around her while escorting her back to the yacht.
Jo has just finished some big fashion shoot when she gets a phone call from Jake who tells her to "come up to room 1720". She reluctantly agrees and once there finds Jake has gotten a nice suite, roses and champagne. But instead of being grateful for all he's done, she whines that the slate still isn't clean so Jake grovels for forgiveness by apologizing for being a jerk and getting sucked into a guilt trip with Shelley over Jess' death. He tells her he loves her and kisses her and only =then= is the slate "clean".
Back at the yacht, Alison is looking a little drier as she thanks Hayley for dinner and for helping her out. As she goes to leave, they pause and almost kiss but before their lips touch, she mumbles, "I can't do this" and walks off, careful to avoid the rope this time.
Jane and Jo are at work admiring Jo's photos when Jo suddenly notices Jane's engagement ring. She starts having "girl talk" with Jane like she cares but either she's been on this show too long or she just has one voice pitch because she comes across as her normal sarcastic, whiney self. It's quickly apparent there's already trouble in paradise as Jane confesses she doesn't love Richard, "not the way I loved Michael" but thinks she can "learn to love him". Jo urges her to try.
At Shooters, Jake is in his office stressing out over something when Shelley comes in. Telling him some crap about once being a massage therapist, Shelley starts rubbing Jake's shoulders. Jake immediately stops her and, after telling her how beautiful and wonderful she is, declares his love for Jo and tells her, "I can't do this - not again". Shelley does her pouty-lip-puppy-dog-eye thing and tells him it was "just a massage" but I don't think either one of them is buying that. Jake tells her it's time for her to get a place of her own which Shelley reluctantly agrees to but only after kissing him on the lips and stating they are "just friends".
At D&D Brooke finally approaches Amanda and tells her Jack is in town. Hearing this, Amanda goes nuts which is Jack's cue to appear out of nowhere. Brooke alerts Amanda to his presence so Amanda bolts while Brooke approaches Jack and asks him for the umpteenth time this episode why he's there and what he wants. Jack explains that he hired detectives, he knows his wife is there, that she ran off when he came in, that she changed her name 5 years ago when she faked her death and I think it's a good time to mention all she ever did was change her name =back= to her maiden name of Woodward (remember her father Parker Woodward?) so why all this is suddenly news to him is a mystery to me. Brooke lies that Amanda is on vacation but Jack sees through the lie and pulls a snow job of his own telling her, "I don't trust detectives - I didn't know she was here until you just told me" before walking out.
Over at Insanity General Kimberly is hopelessly trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together while mumbling "ignorance is bliss" but Peter the Cheerleader is excitedly telling her, "Knowledge is Power!" She is afraid if she spends another month in "that nuthouse" she'll be as crazy as the rest of the patients and here I thought she was already Queen Nutcase. Peter tells her that any professional (I assume he's referring to someone more professional than himself), after hearing how she blocked out that Henry experience for so many years, would declare her sane after which time Peter could petition for her release. Kimberly isn't so sure this is going to work but Peter tells her to "count on it" and they hug - for luck I guess.
At the airport, Amanda is bouncing along with one too many carry-on bags and her ticket when she sees Jack who has just spotted her. Turning away from him she starts to run but Jack chases after her and catches her. Amanda is terrified but Jack calmly explains that he has a fiancee now and needs a divorce. As the patented "Don't Believe A Word He Says" Melrose Music swells, Jack begs Amanda not to get on her plane and we fade to black.

"Drawing Henry"
Yikes! The first thing we see this week is a very realistic sketch of Henry's ugly mug as an artist sits in Kimberly's room drawing it according to her input. He finishes and shows it to Kimberly and Peter which prompts Kimberly to curl up in a little ball and mumble, "He's real". Peter takes the sketch pad and continues, "Or he represents someone who is real" and announces as Super Doctor it's his job to find out which it is. He kisses Kimberly on the forehead and tells her to get some rest (as if anyone could sleep after seeing that picture - I'm still waiting to see if my dinner is going to come back up) and heads out the door in search of Henry.
