Meanwhile, down in San Diego, Billy's wife Sam is being treated to a champagne breakfast in bed by Jeff who's ordered a cartful of foods I can't pronounce. As they lay in bed together, Jeff croons, "I can't wait until you're Mrs. Jeff Baylor" which sends Sam running to the telephone to call her husband. Baseball Boy Toy immediately apologizes for his statement but tells her he can't hide his feelings for her anymore. After all, guest appearances on this show usually last less time than he's been here, so he definitely needs to know where he stands. Sam dials home, gets the answering machine and leaves a message.
At her advertising agency, Amanda is wearing a turtleneck with lavender colored blotches on it that make it look like a baby spewed all over it. Kyle walks in and the ongoing battle of "Kyle Wants Amanda vs. Amanda Wants To Push Kyle Away" starts up again. Kyle tells Amanda he wants one night with her at the jazz club to recapture what they once had. She reluctantly agrees and, once he's out of her office, Amanda Woodward Parezi Burns McBride slips off her wedding ring - good thing she didn't get it tattooed on like Pamela Anderson.
Megan is heading out of Melrose Place when Billy and Jennifer come silently staggering in. Knowing something is up, Megan follows Jen upstairs and asks what happened so Jennifer confides that she slept - better yet, "made love" - with Billy. Megan urges her not to be "the other woman" in a marriage but Jennifer insists she loves Billy "more than Sam" but doesn't say why. The phone rings and it's Sam, calling from her car to see what happened at the Awards Dinner. Jennifer tells her they won so Sam excitedly tells her they need to throw a celebration for Billy. Commenting on how Jennifer "filled in" for her the previous evening, Sam invites her to Billy's big shin-dig. Jennifer remains quiet on the fact that Billy did most of the "filling in."
Michael is at his beach house getting ready for work where it appears Taylor has taken up temporary residence on the sofa until she's sure Nick won't come after her. Michael reminds her of his numerous failed marriages and his floundering clinic as if any of this has anything to do with her being there. Taylor offers a solution: Michael will go to Nick's hotel and see if he's still in town. If he's not, Taylor will gladly return home. Michael reluctantly agrees to this plan and calls Megan to "cover for him" at the clinic until he can get there. Wait a minute. First she's a call girl, then she's an office manager, now she's a doctor? Man, I want to know what college these folks go to!
At AWA, Sam is proudly announcing to a room full of extras (who are getting paid nowhere near as much as they would be if they were real ad execs) how wonderful and talented Billy is. And all I have to say is if he's that damn wonderful and talented, Sam would never have strayed to begin with if you know what I mean *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* Sam turns to Amanda to ask if she has anything to add which Amanda answers coldly, "No" so Sam turns control of the floor over to Billy - "the #2 man here and the #1 man in my life". *Blech* I feel like Stan from "South Park" when Wendy comes around. Jennifer enters the room just as Sam tries to lay a juicy kiss on Billy. "Not in front of all these people," he stiffly replies.
Peter is escorting Lexi back to her apartment after what appears to have been a very successful and intimate date. As they coo over each other, Peter tells her, "I miss you like a drowning man misses a yacht." BINGO! Break out the Wheat Thins, we have a winner for the cheesiest scene this season! Peter and Lexi kiss as they stumble into her apartment and close the door.
It's late enough for Peter and Lexi to just be getting home from their date and Michael is just now arriving at his clinic. He immediately starts thanking Megan but is instantly cut short when he discovers Coop there. Demanding an explanation, Megan informs him that there were just too many sick people to put off and she needed a "real doctor" there to help her out. Michael and Coop exchange their usual hostile remarks only this time it ends with Coop slamming Michael against the wall. At Megan's insistence, Coop releases Michael and then offers an ultimatum: if Megan can't shake Michael loose, she may lose Coop for good. Megan grabs her things and follows Coop out the door.
Over at the jazz club, the featured entertainer is Tom Jones! Oh no, wait - it's Tom SCOTT. Sorry, my bad. Kyle is repeatedly asking Jennifer if she's seen Amanda and decides to go into his office to try calling her office yet again. Samantha answers and tries to cover for Amanda but Kyle immediately picks up on it and lets her know she's a "crappy liar". I don't know about that Kyle, she's sleeping with a big shot baseball boy toy and her husband hasn't caught on yet. Then again, Billy is as dumb as a bag of hammers so maybe that's not the best example. Anyway, Sam hangs up the phone and tries to get Amanda to confide in her, citing their supposed friendship but Amanda just pushes her away as well. She reminds Sam of her own affair and her own lies and reminds her how awful it would be if that information got out. Morphing into Beavis, Samholio replies, "Are you threatening me?" Amanda icily replies, "just giving some friendly advice." Wait - you just said you had no friends. By any chance do you have an alter-personality named Betsy who has a fetish for Tupperware?
The following morning Lexi and Peter are waking up in her bed exchanging pleasantries and morning breath when Peter realizes it's 8:30 AM and he's late for work. As he rushes out of her apartment half-dressed, he bumps into Coop and Megan who are on their way to work. Coop snarls his now-stale insults when Amanda who has just returned from her morning jog interrupts this unlikely foursome. Comparing Peter to a dog, Amanda tells Lexi to keep him "out of her sight". My, my it appears someone not only woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but also ate glass for breakfast. Kyle comes down to retrieve his morning paper and, seeing Amanda, tells her they're "married forever". "Don't bet on it," Amanda replies sarcastically as she heads up to her apartment.
Coop enters Megan's office with a bottle of champagne and immediately closes the door behind him. Pouring 2 glasses, he tells her the champagne is for her "being so understanding" yesterday when he exploded on Michael and earlier this morning when he got PMSy with Lexi. He tells her they each need to get away from their "relationship ghosts" and has plans to do just that but can't let her in on the details just yet. What is it, Coop? Murder? Another bomb? Terminating Heather Locklear's contract???
Back at the jazz club, Michael is at the bar telling Jennifer he's convinced Megan still feels something for him. What he doesn't realize is that it's probably just gas. Sam approaches the bar so Jennifer goes to take her order and get the dirt on her San Diego trip. Frazzled, Sam tells Jennifer about Jeff's marriage proposal and, once again, asks Dr. Love what she should do. Naturally, Jennifer tells Sam she should leave Billy. Kyle emerges from the back just long enough to be questioned by Mario, the cook downstairs, who hasn't seen Taylor in 2 days and is worried about her. He's afraid if she doesn't come back he'll never be in another Melrose scene again. Kyle laughs it off but when Mario expresses sincere worry, Michael intervenes and exasperatedly says, "She's fine!" Suspicious, Kyle asks Michael how he knows this. Even though his foot is wedged in his mouth, Michael is smart. He went to Melrose Med School. He says something about how "Taylor is always fine" - which, pardon me, seems like a lie considering her hair and her wardrobe - and skedaddles out of the club. Kyle promises Mario he'll "check it out".
Peter and Lexi are cruising along a road completely oblivious to the fact that there's a cameraman sitting right in the center of the back seat. It appears they're supposed to be going to dinner but Peter has a surprise for Lexi - a new place to live! Now that my own boyfriend has dumped me, maybe *I* should start dating a doctor. Peter proudly shows her around and tells her, not only does it not have bad memories like the condo, but it's also better than her "crappy little apartment" she's currently residing in. Lexi is a little more than ticked off that Peter did all this without consulting her first and, flipping her hair, demands Peter take her home at once.
We can see a shot of the complex as we listen to Coop's voice. He sounds giddy as a small child as he hangs up the phone. Apparently he has just gotten a wonderful offer. A research Hospital in Philadelphia is offering him an interview. Coop thinks this sounds like it would be much more exciting then what he's doing now. Hmmmmm, emergency medicine, research? What is he talking about? Anyway, using her noggin, Megan realizes that this would mean a move to Philly, but she doesn't want to move. Coop tries to persuade her that it would be a perfect way to finally get rid of this "relationship ghost." Megan says she'll think about it, but makes no guarantees. Coop really has to get out of this obsession with hating Michael. He is leaving at the end of the season and it would be great to see him do something else besides torture Michael. But if Coop is leaving and Megan is not, then that means they're going to break up anyway at the end of the season. Could she actually go back to Michael? We'll just have to wait.
Mario cuts up some food for what I'm sure will be a delicious meal, Kyle interrupts him. Kyle hastily walks into the kitchen, holding a note from Nick. It says: "Kyle I'm sorry Taylor's dead. I never meant for this to happen. -Nick". Mario puts a shocked look on his face, proving he just may be the worst actor on the show. While the two men stand there with cheap bewildered looks on their faces, Taylor bursts in. She yaps about needing more orders for some food, and Kyle and Mario glare at her. She's a little surprised by all of this. Kyle shows her the note, and she denies knowing what it means. She tells Kyle she's spent the last two days in a house at the beach with an old friend, and he might not want to know what they were doing. She pulls away Mario to work on some restaurant business, and Kyle angrily slaps himself with the note. Wow, he must be frustrated. He gives a strange caveman like look that says, " I will get to the bottom of this."
Samantha is doing some work at her desk in the ad agency. The phone rings, and Jeff begins to speak as she picks up the phone. "I miss you Sam, I need to see you. I won't take 'no' for an answer." Jeff reallllllllly has to be with Sam, he's so tired of being the "other" man. Meanwhile Billy chats it up with Amanda, and is complaining about his marriage. He says he and Sam have barely looked at each other since the wedding, and every time they get close it doesn't seem real. "Of course not Billy, marriage is just a fairy tale. You're born alone you die alone," Amanda replies. Billy is shocked. How could she say something like that after she just got married herself? Sam cuts in and lets them know she is going to have lunch with a rep. Billy thinks she is a little too excited to be going to see a rep, and suspects foul play. He then leaves ranting about how he has a lunch date of his own.
Sam and Jeff enjoy a nice lunch, as he continues to propose his love to her. He takes back being so forceful about getting married, but still wants very much to be with her, and knows she feels the same way. Sam hesitates to kiss him, and Jeff gets frustrated. She's worried about being in the open, but Jeff doesn't care. Sam gives in, and they begin to lock lips right there in the restaurant.
Jennifer is fixing her own lunch as Billy knocks on the door. He claims he wants to see how she's doing. He saw how angry she looked back at the party Sam threw for him. Billy also assures her that that night together in the hotel DID mean something, and he does care for her. Jennifer is excited to hear that coming from Billy's lips. He starts to walk for the door when she stops him. "Don't go," she says, while pulling him into a kiss. "We can talk later," she whispers in between kisses. "Yea, we can talk later," Billy interrupts. He walks out of the apartment and heads back to work. Jennifer looks a little depressed, she was under the impression that they were about to....well, you know.
Next we see a few second shot of the "musical guest" as he blows into his horn, providing some soothing tunes for us to groove to. Kyle is in the back shuffling through lots of papers. Taylor appears with some orders he has to sign. I like how she always has to have something signed, and needs to carry a clipboard with her everywhere. Plus she always holds it over her stomach, could she be trying to hide something from the viewers at home? She questions as to why Kyle is digging through all these papers about Christine. Kyle nudges her aside, not caring what she thinks. Taylor says she still cares for him, he just has to believe her. Kyle gets slightly peeved, saying he could never trust her again after everything she's done in the past. Taylor professes love, and storms out. Jennifer walks up beside him to find out what he's doing. Apparently he's hoping somewhere in all of these papers he will discover something about why Nick was around. Why are there so many papers on Christine anyway? She was in LA for four episodes, and has a stack of at least a hundred papers on the desk. Jennifer tells him to check the hotel bill, which would have all of the phone numbers she called. Kyle gets a dumb look on his face and hits himself in the head. "Hello," he says, trying to get that small brain working. There is one number he doesn't recognize, so they give it a call. The clerk who answers tells them it is a hotel on Sunset. Kyle then asks if they had a guest named Nick Reardon. One second later the guy says, "yea we did, he checked out two days ago." How would this guy remember Nick? Well, I guess he is hard to forget, he's quite a character. Kyle hangs up the phone with a small smile. He thinks with that same look, "I will get to the bottom of this."
We are welcomed back from the commercial with Megan jogging down the sidewalk. I don't even have to tell you who shows up to woo her. The relationship ghost smiles saying this is where they first met, jogging on the beach. Of course he's too blinded by love to realize they are actually jogging on the sidewalk, and not the beach. The ghost has heard about Megan's possible relocation to Philly, and complains about how little she would like it there. Megan can't get the spirit to leave, as he keeps going on and on about how perfect they are for each other. She stops a moment, and Micha-er-the ghost gives her a big wet sloppy kiss. "Tell me that didn't stir up some feelings," Mikey says hoping for a good answer. Megan turns and begins to run away. "Actually it helped to make my decision easier." Micheal stands there confused, and you can practically hear him thinking "Doh!"
Lexi lies in her spanking new bed in the new apartment, despite her being so against it before. She picks up the phone to call Peter, who appears on the top half of the screen. Oooohhhh a split screen phone conversation. Lexi apologizes, and apologizes again, she feels so bad about everything. Peter is happy to hear her say such a thing. Lexi just wanted to trust him a little more before she let him move in. She invites him over for dinner in her apartment. Peter declines because he hates that place. "No Peter, in my new apartment." Well, that changes everything. Peter eagerly agrees, and hangs up to get ready for work.
Kyle bangs on Taylor's door in Melrose Place. She tries to get him to come in and watch television with him, but he is uninterested. He confronts her about Nick and how he's been in town; he wonders if perhaps she knows something about it. Taylor yet again denies it all, and claims to have not even seen Nick. "I hope not, for your sake," Kyle says in a threatening voice. He walks away leaving Taylor feeling very worried and me wondering why Kyle doesn't find it suspicious that both Taylor's and Nick's number were on the phone bill.
Amanda enters Peter's office. Hey, never thought she'd be there ever again. Peter looks up suspiciously. "I never thought I'd see you after that dog remark the other day. Do you think I look like a dog?" he asks, somehow keeping a straight face (but after the yacht line, I imagine this one was a cake walk). We all know he hates to have his looks insulted, it is clear he spends hours on that hair. Amanda feels she needs someone to talk to, and it can't be Kyle. She invites Peter out to dinner, so they can chat and catch up. Peter agrees, and calls Lexi, who walks slowly to the telephone in her skimpy outfit, in which she was waiting for Peter. He tells her he'll be out late because Amanda's an emotional mess. He wonders if he can come over and make passionate love to her tomorrow. She says, "maybe." Peter grabs his coat and they head out.
Taylor wanders into the clinic, as Michael plays on the computer. He argues that he has no money, and Taylor complains about Kyle. The two agree that they never get any respect from anyone. I wonder if Rodney Dangerfield oversaw this scene.
Amanda dines with Peter, and tells him she still cares for him, but as a friend. Guilt stricken, and not believing what Amanda is saying, Peter says he can't have dinner with her. He tells her he will do anything he can to help her, but not if it hurts Lexi. He tosses down his napkin, and leaves. He gets home to a depressed Lexi, assuring her that she could trust him, and he was there for her. The two fall down for a nice make out session, and we take a break for a week.

Amanda does some more arguing with Kyle. Michael pours gasoline all over the inside of the clinic seemingly to torch it for fire insurance. Jennifer begs Billy to stay with her and kisses him in the middle of the courtyard while Sam watches from above. Looks like that marriage ends (finally!).
"Too Romantic For Words"
Remember how last week's episode ended with a bunch of dimly lit, slow-motion shots of Billy and Jennifer rolling around naked in bed, presumably to let us know there's more to their affair than "just sex"? Well, now it's morning and Billy awakens to find the hair of the dog that bit him (along with the rest of her anatomy) sleeping comfortably on his chest. He instantly starts listing his regrets to which a sleepy-eyed Jennifer replies, "but you're with me and I care about you" along with some other nonsense about how their romp in the hay was "magical". Billy is feeling far from magical and needs to get to San Diego to be with his wife, but promises Jennifer he has no intention of disclosing their affair - at least he doesn't think so. With Andrew Shue, it's so hard to tell when he switches from one emotion to the next. They agree to act like it never happened but not to think of their night together as a bad thing but, instead, as a "good, private memory".
